Another bit of evidence of Jeremy's suspension being BS?

well it seems that due to this "duty manager" person Clarkson is considering quitting the show, so Top Gear as we know it has it's days numbered if it ever returns

"As we know it" are key words here. Even if Jeremy leaves top gear he may be replaced with someone far inferior

Even Noel Edmonds (former TG presenter in the 90s) said that the BBC "grossly mismanaged" this entire incident. It should never have grown this big.

yeah that's why I added those words as it could continue with another person but go in a completely different direction, perhaps more towards an actual car show similar to 5th gear rather than entertainment

Sorry, but how does this make it BS? "Fists flew...". Connect or not, if I take a swing at someone at work my ass is getting rightfully fired.

People need to stop equatting their cube farm or other run of the mill job to Jeremy's on TopGear. They are not the same. I have no doub that you'd be fired for punching your boss.. but Jeremy isn't your average employee, and that is not your average work environment.

If they do replace him will the other two stay and will you still watch? I just don't see how you recreate the chemistry the three of them have...they've worked on this for so long it just seems like an impossible task to replace him.

The explanation for the entire story can be found here:

I can't believe people still buy this manufactured-controversy rubbish despite the BBC using it every time they want to drum up publicity for TG.

I especially love when people equate their office job to violence in sports. Yeah, buddy, the rules that control your life don't apply to everything in this world.

I think May and Hammond said that if Clarkson goes, they go too. They're kind of a package deal at this point. I have a feeling the show will go on in name alone.

The fact that the person they were targeted at said it's no big deal, everyone calmed down, Jezza realized he was being an idiot, and is saying that the whole thing is silly shows to me that it really wasn't a big deal and that things would have carried on as normal if it wasn't reported. Nothing would have been said, and they still would all have been friends at the end of the day. There was a really good piece from a former TG staffer that really describes the whole crew as being extremely tight knit and like a family, Oisin Tymon included. I get the impression that no one on the show from top to bottom would want something like this to get in the way of their production. I worked in the film industry for a long time, and it's not like any other industry on the planet. You can't compare it to an office job. Things happen when people live together day in and day out in close quarters for weeks on end with alot of downtime. I've been punched on set once. I was pissed for a moment, the other dude apologized, I did too because I was kind of being a dick, and we got on with the job. We're actually friends now. It's not that big of a deal. There was a bit of drama for a moment, and things were uneasy for a bit, but by the next day, everything was fine. Top Gear's been on the air for twelve years and has been extremely stable with regards to their production staff. That's not a coincidence. I'm sure that everyone on the crew just wants to get on with it.

In sports there is an implied level of violence that is part of game. I mean obviously (for example) boxers are allowed to punch certain people. They aren't allowed to punch the refs though!! There is still unacceptable vs acceptable violence in most sports. For example in hockey you can punch someone in the face, and generally that's not really a problem. However if you're Marty McSorely, and use your stick as a weapon to club Donald Brashear in the head, then you will go to court as he did.

Not to sound like a dick, but you probably bring in a lot less money for your company than Jeremy Ckarkson does his.

No, that's true. But i also don't broadcast to the world that my company employs an asshole that punches people over sausage rolls. To think it's bs that BBC takes action over this is just being a clarkson apologist

Sure, but I've been involved in conversations on Gawker sites where people were calling for people to be arrested because two teams were involved in fist fights. That's nonsense.

Indeed. One of my friends actually wrote his legal master's thesis on exactly where that line is drawn in hockey in Canada. I am of the opinion on more leniency generally towards this sort of stuff. Gawker main page is societies dregs I stay away from there.

Clarkson apologist? As if he's some sort of Stalin-like figure. You obviously have some sort of obsession with the guy. I couldn't care less what the BBC does. I enjoy Clarkson and Top Gear, but it's not something I really worry or give a shit about. I did work at a place once which allowed employees to have a go with each other in a safe and controlled environment. It cut down on a lot of work place bs, as all the passive aggressive people ended up not sticking around.
